A woman, Teresia Nyambura, aged 36, allegedly posted negative captions maligning a man and his wife, whom she met at a social event, following an online interaction.
Nyambura is now facing two counts of cyberbullying.
According to court documents, on December 5, Nyambura shared photos with negative captions about her online friend and his wife.
Nyambura wrote, “Weeh juzi nilienda event nikameet one of my followers kumbe kijana amewekwa na sugar mummy karibu wa mathegere achapwe ni mehemehe nitawacha kusalimia watu,” words believed to be directed at the man’s wife. She further expressed her shock at discovering that the man lived a luxurious life courtesy of an older woman, stating, “I was shocked kuona kumbe huringa na gari ya mumamaz na kila saa kumsifu.”
Prior to the social gathering, Nyambura and the man had connected on Facebook, exchanging contacts and engaging in phone calls.
On the day of the event, Nyambura saw the man she had been chatting with. Allegedly, the man signalled her to sit away as he was in the company of another woman. Nyambura, seemingly dejected and disappointed, approached the man, greeted him while avoiding the woman seated beside him, and then left.
When presented before Makadara Law Courts Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi, Nyambura denied the accusations. She is out on Sh20,000 bail ahead of the hearing on July 10, 2024.
